Citizenship Eligibility and Enrollment

Citizenship within the Southeastern Mvskoke Nation is a sovereign determination belonging exclusively to the Nation and exercised through the authority of the Tribal Council.

Individuals who can document direct lineal descent from the Federal Eastern Creek Base Roll compiled for the 1950 Indian Land Claims Commission may be eligible to submit an application for consideration of citizenship.

Eligibility to apply does not constitute acceptance or entitlement to enrollment. Submission of genealogical documentation establishes eligibility for review only. The Southeastern Mvskoke Nation reserves the inherent sovereign right to approve, defer, or deny any application in accordance with Tribal law, policy, cultural responsibility, and the best interests of the Nation.

The citizenship rolls of the Southeastern Mvskoke Nation are currently closed. The Tribal Council retains exclusive authority to determine when enrollment periods may open or close. Applications submitted while the rolls remain closed may be declined, deferred, or held without action at the discretion of the Tribal Council.

Individuals who are enrolled citizens of another state or a federally recognized Native American Tribe are not eligible for citizenship within the Southeastern Mvskoke Nation.

No decree, judgment, or order issued by any court or outside authority purporting to determine citizenship, paternity, or degree of Indian blood shall be recognized as a determination of citizenship within the Southeastern Mvskoke Nation. Citizenship determinations remain solely within the sovereign jurisdiction of the Nation.
